Puppy Essentials Private Lessons

The puppy essentials private lessons are designed to introduce you and your new puppy to the exciting world of dog training! Using safe, gentle and science-based training methods, you will learn how to lay down a solid foundation. With your guidance your puppy will learn how to offer behaviors naturally and this will pave the way for more advanced training as your puppy matures.  Here are just some of the topics that will be covered in the puppy essentials training lessons:

  • Housebreaking

  • Socialization

  • Age appropriate exercise and structured play

  • Basic behaviors (sit, down, stay, come)

  • Intermediate behaviors (Loose-leash walking, leave it, drop it)

Private Lessons

Private lessons are conducted outdoors at your home and neighborhood or even at a nearby location. Each lesson starts with a demonstration of the new behavior, then I’ll coach you through the teaching process. Learn effective leash handling and management techniques and how to use positive reinforcement to teach your dog basic and advanced behaviors. We can also address challenging behaviors like on-leash reactivity and other fear and anxiety related behaviors.

Managing Canine Aggression

Aggression is a normal canine behavior but one that can be difficult for pet guardians to manage. The good news is that many aggression cases can be improved or even resolved. The key to working with a dog with a history of aggression is careful management and an understanding that behavior modification takes time and patience.

Some dogs require a muzzle for safe handling. If that is the case, I am happy to guide you through the muzzle conditioning process. This can take two through three weeks but the goal is to teach your dog to wear a muzzle with the least amount of stress possible. We will use safe, gentle and science-based training methods to help modify undesired behaviors including dog to dog aggression, dog to human aggression and resource guarding.
